I recently watched the James Bond film Skyfall. *Spoiler alert* He gets shot in the first five minutes and the world thinks he’s dead. He escapes to some beautiful island where’s he’s super contemplative and “enjoying” his death. However, he see’s the MI6 building destroyed on TV and so decides to go back to Britain and save the day. Along the way drama happens, he goes to China, meets a beautiful women, meets a bad guy, defeats the bad guy and is the awesome and emotional James Bond we’ve come to expect from Daniel Craig. Good stuff.
But what if he had just stayed on the island and enjoyed his ‘death’?
Maybe he would have become a coconut salesman and lived the rest of his days quietly staring at sunsets with some beautiful local lady, growing old together. Maybe He would have become a fisherman, been the village favourite and caught fish for the rest of his days.
None of that matters though because that’s not what James Bond did. He left the beautiful beach and went back to England, saved the day and was who we all expected him to be.
He took the initiative to be a hero.
As western people seem to be in the mindset of work so that our lives can end up on a beach somewhere missing out on enjoying the present and enjoying the whatever line of work we are doing.
Life is forward motion.
So lets all take the initiative, get off the beach and live our lives in the now.
