After a few years rewarding years in theatre productions he moved to film in 1986 and starred in several TV series, earning him a Tony Award in 1991.
He became known as a character actor and gained success through his roles in Swimming with Sharks and The Usual Suspects, which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for, followed by more nominations and awards like the Best Actor for American Beauty. With Beyond the Sea Spacey fulfilled a lifelong dream of his to co-write, direct and co-produce the biography about Bobby Darin.
