For today’s episode of Small Beginnings we are exploring the background to an actor with a very distinct way of comedy.
James Eugene Carrey was born on January 17th in 1962 in Ontario, Canada. Very early on Carrey found his talent for impressions and had his comedy debut in Toronto. He quickly built himself an audience and went into paid shows. Rodney Dangerfield noticed him and took him to Las Vegas. Carrey soon moved on to performing in Hollywood.
When he turned to film and TV work, he starred in a couple of series before having his big breakthrough in 1994 when Dumb and Dumber took off and The Mask brought him his first Golden Globe award as Best Actor. He became known for his hyper, overconfident characters but didn’t fail to find work with more serious roles and still be a success. Several hits followed over the next years and 2004 Carrey was inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame.
We wish Jim Carrey and his family all the best and hope for more characteristic Canadian talent in acting and comedy.
