    Money

Give money. As filmmakers we, hopefully, always have a project on the go and those projects are not possible without the cash to fund them. It can go towards equipment, gas (to get us to our locations), props, costumes and the list goes on. Just make sure to attach a note to it saying, “This is for filmmaking and not to be spent on rent,” cause if you don’t we may not put it towards our dream of filmmaking. You may even have to physically take us to the store yourself cause lets be honest we’re a broke people, unless we’re famous.

    Film Equipment

Equipment! Every filmmaker dreams of that perfect camera, c-stand, lense, and a vault full of equipment we can grab at any time. But to buy all this equipment is a large undertaking. We need your help. If you can somehow find out what we need, we would be forever grateful.

    3
    Movies!

I’m sure every filmmaker, myself included, has a list of films we wished we owned. Snoop around and find the movie we want. Sometimes when making films you forget why you’re making them in the first place and it’s healthy for us to have those reminders of why we do what we do. It’s because we love films!

    4
A Workshop in Our Area of Film

Film is always changing and evolving with new styles and techniques and as a filmmaker we need to stay up to date on the latest fashions. Go online and find out if there are any workshops you could send your loved one because there are plenty of them out there. If we’re a director find a conference at which a director is speaking. A lot of Universities and colleges have acting classes on certain nights of the year. Find out when those are. They’re a lot of fun and will provide an opportunity for us to get connected with our fellow actors.

    5
    Comic Con Tickets

I love comic con!!!! My dream is to go to the one that’s hosted in San Diego in July, but there are others all over the place. Find a comic con that’s happening near you and take us to it. I went to the one in Ottawa, Ontario last May and had a blast. Everyone’s dressed up in costumes, you can get pictures with famous guest speakers, and hear them speak in conference halls.

    Film Related Books

Books! They’re such a useful tool in the movie making process. Through them we learn how to make films and we get to learn from the greats. The type of book you get would, once again, depend on your filmmaker’s interests. A book you could get a writer, for example, would be "The Screenwriters Bible: 6th Edition." I personally own this book and have found it so helpful in learning how to write a script for film.

    9
    Netflix or Amazon Subscription

If you know we don’t have this yet and we’ve got internet, it’s very likely that we would like this for Christmas. I’ve seen Netflix gift cards at grocery stores everywhere and they’re very accessible for you to give as a Christmas gift to your filmmaker.

    10
    Stress Relievers

I don’t know if anyone has told you this, but filmmaking is extremely stressful. If it’s not, then we’re probably not doing it right. Give us a gift card to the spa or the salon. If you want to give us something more practical give us a gift basket full of chocolate, oils, lotions and other items that make us happy. This would be a great gift for anyone in film.
