How To Have A Successful Masterplan: Don’t Have One

Fellow Actors and independent Filmmakers, I present to you 27 year old Steve Carell in Brown’s Chicken Commercial, a dream come true for Carell – and an inspiration for us. He remembers initially thinking: “If I am in a commercial, that will be it, I will have completely made it.”

Now he is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after comic actors – but his major breakthrough only came in his 40s – A breakthrough he wasn’t intentionally looking for. A breakthrough that came after years of commercials, children’s theatres and sketch comedy programs.

His parents were the ones to ultimately convince him to pursue an acting career. Even though he didn’t have a master plan to success.

“Honestly I thought if I can make a living doing it and potentially support a family, that was it, that was the success. There was no bar set beyond that in my mind.”

To all those who are attempting an acting career, be encouraged. Work hard. Persevere. Act for the love of acting. Learn from Steve Carell.
