Metropolis is one of the most popular movies out there and yet, I don’t think a lot of people have seen it. If you’re counted in that category, it’s time to fix it.
Because the film celebrated its 90th birthday on January 10th. Which pretty much guarantees that it’s been around for your whole life and you’ve just put it off.
Stop dilly-dallying and watch it. Metropolis director Fritz Lang helped pioneer Film Noir and was an inspiration to director Alfred Hitchcock.
The film boasts incredible landscapes and jaw-dropping effects for its time. The costumes and set pieces are amazing and intricate.
Metropolis had a huge influence on Superman creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. They decided to name Superman’s city after the film. Also, The Machine Man was used as an inspiration for Star Wars’ C3P0.
If you’re a film nerd or sci-fi fan and you still haven’t seen this, it’s time. And if you consider yourself a filmmaker and you haven’t seen this. Do it. There’s no excuse! You can watch the entire film on YouTube.
Of all the popular movies out there, every creative should see this film.
