How Do You Know If a Movie Is Great?

How does a film school student even know which movies are great, or why the great movies are considered great? I can think of a couple of ‘great’ movies where I didn’t agree with the appraisal.

I’m still confused and often indecisive whether I like a movie or not. Jack Nugent, creator of YouTube Channel Now you See It, put together a video to help you see what makes a movie great.

According to him, the three key aspects that turn good movies into movies with a legacy are the following:

  • How did the movie change the way movies are made?
  • How did the movie change the actual world it was made in?
  • How did the movie make you feel personally?

I enjoyed how well it is explained, and how heartfelt Nugent’s answer and approach is. Check out his channel for more videos with Filmmaking Advice.
