Kendrick Lamar; a name you expect to hear about in music circles, but not in cinematography and filmmaking.
With his last album “To Pimp a Butterfly” being regarded as the album to “save the genre” and now with DAMN on it’s way to receive similar recognition, it’s interesting for me to take a look at what he’s been doing with his music videos.
Music videos usually are something I don’t pay much attention to, they’re usually an afterthought on my part to watch, or something I have on in the background. However as Nerdwriter1 points out, they’re something Kendrick has a unique vision for.
Partnering with talented filmmakers it’s clear Kendrick wants to use his videos for more than just promotional material.
With all the influence he has in the music industry at the moment it’s hard to think he’s someone who couldn’t end up changing music videos for the better. Honestly integrating innovating cinematography is something that excites me for the future of music videos.
