Why not learn from a remarkable Christmas Music video?

This music video by Pentatonix not only fits the season, but it is also a great one to observe and learn from as film school students, especially for editing purposes.

Musical excellence and skill marks this group, but besides that, the editing makes the video exceptionally intriguing. The cuts to the music beats and cues are on point, they add to the rhythm of the song and the visual layering makes the difference between a functional music video and a creative music video.

As good as the technicalities of the editing are, I think it does take away from the message and meaning of the song. The entertainment aspect overrides in my opinion, the original purpose for the video. What do you think?

Look over this video again and think for yourself as the editor if you would have made the same choices or how you would have translated this song to the screen.

How would you film a music video creatively? Can you figure out how exactly the filmmakers did it and would you know how to make movies like this one?
