As actors it’s important to not only look after our voice but to train, exercise and expand on what we have not yet worked on. For our voices to become stronger, clearer and perhaps more flexible we have to include a range of different breathing techniques and exercises to help improve all the elements of our voice.
An actor’s life can be a battlefield and your voice is your sword.. Think about it, we have to repeat our lines about 50,000 times before we get that money making shot, we have shows day and night and we wake up early to be on set and our voices sound croaky and your character demands an acquired sound.
The key to working on a better voice is breathing, it’s all about the breathing. Deep breaths in and out help to sustain your core and resonate a more relaxed tone in your voice. The next key is warm ups, in order to give your best your body needs to warmed up and stretched so that your muscle are ready for work. No one else has the same voice as you, already you have an advantage! Check in with yourself and strive to be heard.
