Netflix is no stranger to making creative and controversial films and their latest flick Come Sunday seems to be no exception. A biopic on Pastor Carlton Pearson, a man who nearly lost everything when questioning his church’s views on damnation.
Regardless of anyone’s religious beliefs, or lack thereof, Come Sunday seems to offer a story of a man risking everything to stand up for what he feels is right. Starring Oscar Nominee Chiwetel Eijofor as Pearson, the film delves into not just questioning your own beliefs, but gathering the strength to move forward in your new ones; as Chiwetel explains in an interview with the National Public Radio:
“And I guess we all have that — we all have these systems of reality that we buy into, that we understand ourselves through that prism,” Ejiofor says. “To actually change your mind about something — it seems straightforward in a way, but is very seismic for any one of us, really, to very fundamentally change our minds about anything.”
However, with mixed reviews so far it seems Come Sunday won’t be on everyone’s Netflix queue. I’m excited to watch it, but let us know if it holds up to your creative standards, or if you’d rather sleep in.
