Why An Editor Needs To Have Empathy

Editing involves inspiration. There is so much more that goes intoediting than you realise. An editor needs to have empathy, they need to let their emotions play a role in deciding how to cut.

This tutorial explains how the ‘science’ of feelings is probably the most important aspect of being a good editor since it really is so much more than simply cutting together footage and putting it in the right order.

I’ve seen many videos by This Guy Edits and I love watching them because he always seems to hit the nail on the head when explaining what editing actually is.

The video highlights everything you didn’t expect to be a part of the editing process, and even for myself, as an editor, I learned so much just by watching this.

Editing is intuition, and without it, it will just be a selection of clips spliced together to make somewhat of a story, rather than a creative piece of art.
