Some films are just too much to see twice no matter how creative they are. In this video The Greatest Movies We’ll Never Watch Again by Looper, we see a list of incredible movies that are also emotionally draining.
Of the list, I have personally seen at least half of them and I have to say I mostly agree with their conclusions, specifically Silence, a story following a Jesuit priest struggling with his faith in 17th century Japan. Although this film was well made, I most certainly will not watch it again if I can help it because of its eerie silence (pun intended).
What the video essay doesn’t go into however is the importance of watching films like these in order to stay grounded, take a step back and look at your life from a new perspective.
Blade Runner 2049 is also mentioned, but I will say despite this film being slow it is one I could see a second time due to its stunning visuals and compelling soundtrack.
Not all films are made for entertainment, some have the sole purpose to get us thinking and be challenged. If you are looking for a film to do just that then I suggest you take a gander at this video.
It’s important to search for inspiration in films once in a while because you never know how they might change you.
