One of my favorite scenes in all of film happens in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace where the tenacious young Anakin Skywalker wins an epic pod race. What makes it so fun is the fast-paced flying and close calls between the pod racers and the environment where they’re flying. That insane flying is exactly what I thought of when I saw this drone video, The sky is not the limit. The video is filmed by drone pilot, Johnny Shaer, and shows off the amazing skills of FPV (first person view) drone flying.
It takes us through tight canyons, over cliffs with adventure seeking cliff jumpers, and right up close with running rhinos. This kind of drone piloting takes immense skill and focus. I’ve been piloting drones for about two years now, and I can tell you the amount of focus needed for your average consumer drone is high. So to pilot a smaller drone, fly inches off the water at incredibly fast speeds, and get incredibly close to nature makes for some impressive footage.
I think this could be the future of filmmaking! Give the video a watch, and pass this along to other creatives who push the boundaries in film!
