How The Haunting Of Hill House Built Their Story Around One Episode

The Haunting of Hill House is one of those well crafted and creative horror stories you just can’t look away from.

In October 2018, Netflix released all 11 gripping episodes of this unique horror/thriller/drama series. Not only was the story itself compelling but the logistics behind the production were incredibly impressive.

Each episode centres around one character in particular, but half way through the season in episode 6 we witness a masterpiece come together: 80% of the episode has the appearance of one shot.

As I watched it I counted about 4 cuts in the first 45 minutes or so.

I was blown away by the scale of this project. Every line of dialogue, every camera movement, every special effect, down to the very last detail had to perform like clockwork or the take had to begin again.

Watch this video detailing how the entire series built their set – and essentially their story around this one episode, shaping it to be the cornerstone of the entire series.

If you’re a horror fan, a writer, a film nerd or simply looking for a good scare while being impressed at the same time then I recommend the innovative series The Haunting Of Hill House.
