In 2018, the innovative Jordan Peele won Best Original Screenplay for his film, Get Out. In this awesome clip by YouTuber Tyler Mowery, Peele talks about how he wrote the award winning screenplay.
If you want to be a writer, it’s good to learn from those who have learned the rules, know when to break them, and it doesn’t hurt if they’ve won awards for their work. Peele not only gives great advice on how to write original horror/thriller screenplays, but he mentions how to write for comedy as well. And the dude knows what he’s talking about. What I loved most about this video is how he describes his process with such clarity, bringing us, the viewer, on the journey with him.
With Peele’s newest horror hit, Us, terrifying audiences everywhere and earning a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s definitely worth watching this. There’s a lot the writing community can take away from what he has to say, enjoy!
