How To Make Cool Thumbnails For Your Vlogs

BY HANNAH PRIMAN

Are you wanting to captivate your audience with creative thumbnails, but just don’t know where to start? There are a ton of youtubers that have eye popping thumbnails and you can too, you don’t need to be a pro.

Here’s what website I use:

Canva

Canva is a great resource for pretty much anything, it provides all social media to marketing templates to use at your leisure. The best thing about it is that it’s free!

Let’s create a cool thumbnail!

Step one:

Once you have reached the homepage, you can create a design. The cool thing about Canva is that there are lots of different templates you can use. As we want to make a thumbnail click on the ‘Youtube Thumbnail.’

Step two:

Choose your desired Canva layout template design.

Step three:

Upload the photo you want displayed on your thumbnail. Make sure the quality of your photo is clear and crisp.

Step four:

Add text to your thumbnail, there’s plenty of different fonts and designs you can choose from. When it comes to text, keep it simple. For example, Exotic Getaway in Maui Vlog.

Step five:

This is the fun part, you can add graphics to your photo. You can choose from photos or illustrations, for example, I searched for puppies and a whole bunch popped up. To give you a heads up, the pro version requires money and the free ones mean they are free to use.

Step six:

Edit time! Up the top of your photo you’ll find a section where is says, filter, crop, flip, copy arrange opacity, link and a delete button. You can change the colour of your graphics, fade them and more. Go wild and edit away!

Step seven:

Wha-laa! A cool looking thumbnail. Stun your audience with creative colours, text styles, graphics and effects.

Step eight:

Lastly, save your photo and press the download button at the top and click the desired file type, I normally save my photos as JPG but you can choose your own. Once that has downloaded, you can upload your awesome looking thumbnail to YouTube!

You don’t need to be a pro when it comes to these things, but having a creative eye will help make your YouTube thumbnail stand out. Think headline, think striking. The more you play around with your designs the more innovative and nifty you’ll become.
