I want to meet Jason Walsh, like right now, and experience his innovative approach to training stars for myself.
In this incredible clip from Vanity Fair’s YouTube Channel, Walsh breaks down a bit of the process he took to train actors John Krasinski for 13 Hours, Bradley Cooper for American Sniper, Emily Blunt for Edge of Tomorrow, Alison Brie for Glow, Emma Stone for La la Land, and Brie Larson for Captain Marvel.
The training approach for each of these were as unique as the roles the actors played – and Walsh explains how he made Krasinski, Cooper, and Blunt ready for military characters; and how he took a different approach for Stone to be dance ready, Brie wrestle ready, and transforming Larson into a superhero – not only physically, but mentally too.
What really stuck out to me was the training he did with Emily Blunt, and while I’m already a huge fan of this incredible actress, it gave me heaps more respect for the work she put into Edge of Tomorrow.
“She [Emily Blunt] had to wear an exoskeleton and this thing weighed about 70 pounds … we ended up doing a lot of conditioning out on a track and using a weight vest … teaching her how to move with that weight on her back.”
It’s just absolutely incredible how much tenacity each of these stars had, all to tell us a good story, and what an incredible trainer they got to work with for these films. Definitely gives this creative new inspiration to jump on the treadmill more often, what about you?
