Negative Space, an incredible and innovative stop motion short film is just what you need for all the feels. BUT it’s also a great watch for film creatives as a source of inspiration on how to create out of the box visuals for the narrative. The story follows a man packing for a trip and as the events unfold we discover how he bonded with his father by learning how to pack a suitcase.
This Oscar-nominated short was beautifully told by director/writer team Max Porter & Ru Kuwahata with roads turning into giant suitcases and clothes turning into waves, symbolizing the emotions of the main character. Instead of dialogue, the story unfolds in an original poem by Ron Koertge and is voiced by Albert Birney, who brings the character of Sam to life with an incredible tone and pace.
Definitely take a look at this short for inspiration on how you can tell an innovative story!!
