There’s no doubt the trailer for Netflix’s season 3 of 13 Reasons Why is creative.
After watching it I was intrigued by the questions it asked and the aesthetic appeal, but a story that once tackled a sensitive and heavy topic of teen suicide simply morphed into another dark, gritty, teen drama.
Despite its rave reviews in season 1 the content was questionable in regards to causing more confusion about suicide rather than bringing awareness. Season 2 didn’t do so well with the critics, but nevertheless it was still popular, season 3 however, bombed even worse with the ratings and the audience response was a measly ‘Meh’.
The story now goes the route of gritty and dark teen drama, which in its own world isn’t a bad thing and would be sure to gain popularity with its target audience, but in respect to the original story, which only really lasted one season, it seems to just go on tangents and reach for new story elements because of the popularity of the first 2 seasons.
13 Reasons Why season 3 dropped on Netflix on August 23. The loyal fans of the first two seasons have surely been disappointed by the third installment giving us an indication that any future investments aren’t worth it.
The trailer was uniquely creative but unfortunately that’s the best thing about the season with a 12% score on rotten tomatoes.
