When asked to list some of the most creative playwrights in history, you’ll probably hear Shakespeak, Andrew Lloyd Weber, and recently, Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote one of the biggest plays on Broadway in recent history, Hamilton. But that’s not all he’s done. He also wrote the play In the Heights which premiered in 2005 and broke onto Broadway in 2008. The play will be hitting the big screen as a film in June 2020.
It’s not just Lin-Manuel who has the creative gene in the family. In this interview with Variety, he and his father, Luis Miranda, talk about their shared passion for Puerto Rico and have a documentary, Siempre, Luis, about taking Hamilton to the island.
As the video draws to a close, Lin-Manuel gets asked the big question on the mind of every Hamilton fan. We’ve all heard the whispers that the play was filmed with the original Broadway cast before they began to retire from the show. He confirms the not-so-secret rumors that it was, in fact, filmed, and it’s been cut into a film.
You all have that friend who brags, “I saw that with the original cast.” Well, we’re stealing that brag from everyone, because you’re all going to see it with the original cast.
The release date has recently been announced: October 15, 2021. Coming from someone in the community of fans of the tenacious show, I can’t wait to see it.
