Enter Shaun White; the most tenacious and wicked snowboarder in the sport. But I’m not here to merely put a spotlight on him, or the other four incredible athletes from America. Today I want to highlight this collection of beautifully composed commercials for the 2018 Olympics which were released during the Super Bowl. They were meant to simply advertise the Olympics, but they’ve done so much more.
Spanning across five different commercials, Shaun White, Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin, Chloe Kim, and Nathan Chen appear in aesthetically stunning commercials instantly captivating the audience. Each commercial carries its own personality that mirrors that of the athlete.
White gets a one minute spot showing him striving to be the best to the tune of a classic rock song.
Vonn shows her beginnings, the struggles she faced, and the whole slope up until now.
Mikaela gets a light hearted spot showing her drive to be better than the boys.
Chloe gets a close to home spot showing the sweet relationship with her proud dad.
And Chen gets one minute to show the radical, yet beautiful side of ice skating.
Shaun White’s commercial was directed by long time music video director, Paul Hunter, who’s worked music artists such as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Eminem, and the legendary Michael Jackson. Watching this commercial, you could definitely pick up on the rich music video flavor from the director.
