Let me set the scene: you’re sitting down to enjoy dinner, let’s say, a ham and turkey sandwich on rye. You take a bite of that ham and turkey and then it hits you. You’ve got nothing to drink.
Well friends, you’re in luck! I have a list a sci-fi drinks for you that are truly out of this world.
Klingon Bloodwine (Star Trek)
The first drink on the menu comes all the way from the Klingon home planet itself. With precious ingredients found on earth, you too can make your own at home.
The ingredients you’ll need are:
- Cranberry Juice
- 6 dashes of Tabasco Sauce
- 1 dash of Grenadine (not pictured)
- 1 oz. Rum, spiced (Captain Morgan’s) (not pictured)
- 1 oz. Tequila, gold (Jose Cuervo especially) (not pictured)
Here’s how:
- Add tabasco sauce to an ice-filled beer mug or glass.
- Pour in the tequila, rum and grenadine, and fill with cranberry juice.
- Shake twice and serve.
And there you have it! A spicy mix of a drink, sure to pack an extra kick with the tabasco sauce. I don’t usually like cranberry juice, but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste.
Bottoms up!
Slurm (Futurama)
It may come from the back end of a giant slug in the show, but that doesn’t stop it from being great! Slurm captured the minds and hearts of Futurama’s inhabitants and as a drink of the future, we can only hope to recreate it.
That being said, here are some ingredients that make the delicious delicacy.
The ingredients are:
- 2 oz. pineapple juice
- 3 oz. Sprite
- 1 oz. sour apple Schnapps (not pictured)
- lime jell-o (not pictured)
- 2 oz. light rum (not pictured)
I was able to find these three drinks at Woolworths. You should be able to find them at a local grocery store. Once you’ve found and bought the drinks you can then mix them.
Mixing instructions:
- Pour all the ingredients into a large glass and stir
Easy, right? Below I include the right measurements for the different ingredients.
For the pineapple juice, 60 ml is about 2 oz.
For the Sprite, 80 ml is just shy of 3 oz.
And last, but most assuredly not least, 30 ml comes to 1 oz for the apple juice.
Here’s the finished product:
I thought it was really good. It tasted fruity, yet it had that crisp fizzle that soda is known for. The flavor was a bit hard to pin down, it tasted like a new fruit juice. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a sweet, quirky style drink. Which I mean, who isn’t?
(Insert Futurama joke here:)
Blue Milk (Star Wars)
The last drink on the menu is a personal favourite of mine, the infamous blue milk. First popularised by the Lars homestead back in A New Hope, this intergalactic treat will take you back to the dunes of Tatooine. Assuming you’ve been to Tatooine before.
The ingredients:
- 2 tbsps plain yogurt
- 1 ripe banana, mashed
- A drop of blue food colouring
- 1 tsp of honey to sweeten
- 250 ml of milk (not pictured)
The mix:
- Add the milk, banana, yoghurt and honey to your blender. Whizz till combined.
- Add a few drops of blue food colouring to get the correct colour. Stir well.
- Pour it into a tall glass and whisk yourself to a galaxy far, far away.
I included some picture of the measurements for those of you who are more visually inclined.
The milk (120 ml x2)
The yoghurt (1 tbsp x2)
The honey (1 tsp)
The banana
Throw it all together in a blender and viola!! With a great taste and pleasant thickness, you got yourself the coolest drink this side of the Milky Way.
These three intergalactic drinks should go great with that ham and turkey sandwich!
