Why Darth Vader is a Terrible Villain

If you ask any film school student to list off their top five movie villains from popular movies, chances are Darth Vader will make that list. Even if you ask the average moviegoer, Vader will likely be on that list.

He’s third on the American Film Institute’s list of Greatest Movie Villains.

Darth Vader is a character who has shaped the film world and culture as a whole. Even people who have never watched, or claim not to like, Star Wars know (*SPOILERS*) Darth Vader is Luke’s father.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great character. He’s iconic, and he’s far from a “good guy.”

He’s just not a villain.
