We’ve all seen impersonations of actors in the roles they’ve played, but I’ve never seen someone mimic actors in roles they didn’t play. But now I have, and I think it’s genius.
Watching this video of The Walking Dead’s Ross Marquand turn iconic movies on their heads was hilarious.
Imagine what Taxi Driver would have become if John C. Reilly had played Travis Bickle instead of Robert De Niro. Better still, how different would Taken have been if Jack Nicholson had starred in it, instead of Liam Neeson, or Brad Pitt had been the lead in Jaws and Zach Galifianakis had been the counselor in Good Will Hunting!?
Not only is it entertaining to watch and imagine how the film would have been different, but it also inspired me from a casting perspective.
As a Casting Director, one of the things I want to do is to bring something fresh to the characters I cast. Yes, to some degree, most actors get typecast into roles, but personally I think it’s best to think outside the box when it comes to casting. I don’t want just the typecast actor in the stereotypical role, I want to bring something fresh and new.
Seriously, watch this and let it help you to be more creative and innovative when it comes to casting your films.
