Netflix continues to pump out some of the most creative and innovative tv shows of the past decade, and The Haunting of Hill House is no exception.
Flashing back between the actual haunting at Hill House and the grown-up kids in the present, the show gives you an idea of what happens to a family after they survive the horror movie.
Based off of the 1959 book of the same name and the 1963 adaptation The Haunting the Netflix series comes with a fresh take on classic horror.
At its core, this is a show about how family trauma and dysfunction can go on to affect, even define huge parts of your life. Replacing metaphorical demons of the past with real ones, it’s a brilliant take on family that works best as a nail biting horror show.
Horror fans will take delight in its dedication to scares masterfully based off of building tension rather than just jump scares. The whole thing feels like a love letter to both its 1963 predecessor and the whole genre of a classic haunted house story.
The performances are strong, the writing is fantastic, and the tension will keep you at the edge of your seat. You’d be crazy not to add this creative exploration of family and coming together to your Netflix queue.
