Author of Save the Cat, Blake Snyder, came up with a brilliant way to categorize all popular movies beyond the basic genres of comedy, drama, horror, etc. Every movie can easily fit into these ten new genres and some movies could even fit into a few of them. They’re called: The Fool Triumphant, Whydunit, Monster in the House, Out of the Bottle, Superhero, Rites of Passage, Institutionalized, Buddy Love, Golden Fleece, and Dude With A Problem. In order to find examples of films to create this vlog, I looked at my list of Top 100 Favorite Movies and sorted them into these different genres. I found that the movies from The Fool Triumphant were some of my favorite movies as a kid like Forrest Gump, Pirates of the Caribbean, What About Bob, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. I guess I just loved watching a fool triumph over people who are trying to stop them from living their life, which makes sense if you knew me as a kid.

After watching the vlog and understanding each category, make a list of movies and sort them into these groups! Which genre has some of your favorite films? What is it about those specific stories that have been such an inspiration to you?
