Why Stories Matter

All popular movies stem from a well thought out story, and all stories are worth telling but the way they’re told also matters, otherwise it isn’t even a story.

Confusing? Well this video by Will Schoder will explain it in clear detail, but basically ‘every story is the same’.

There are plenty of videos out there explaining story, and plenty of books describing how to write a story. ‘Every Story Is The Same’ explains Philosopher Joseph Campbell’s ‘Monomyth’ or ‘Hero’s Journey’ and how Community and Rick and Morty creator, Dan Harmon bases his stories on this theory.

Stories are what bring us together. They span cultures and can last for thousands of years. This short video is worth watching not only to gain more knowledge in your craft, but also to simply learn how to communicate with the universal language of story.

If you’re a filmmaker or writer, whether seasoned or fresh to the scene, then this video does a great job explaining everything you need to know about the basics of story.

Writing and telling a good story is the first step in learning how to make movies that impact and inspire.
