The rack focus is a brilliant and creative way to enhance visual storytelling and have the power to direct the audiences’ eyes wherever you want on the screen. You also have the ability to save so much time when you combine two shots into one by racking focus, and in the film industry time is money.

By racking focus, you can easily eliminate insert shots which helps keep the momentum of the scene rolling and saves more time on set. You also get to layer subjects within two depths of focus, which can be visually appealing to look at and can give a deeper emotional connection to the story because of the way you can effortlessly go from point A to point B in the frame. The rack focus is basically parkour for your eyes.
